마이클 잭슨은 오래전부터 여호와의 증인으로 대표된 가수였고, 최후 그는 마이클(Michael)을 미카엘(Mikaeel), 즉 이슬람 식으로 이름을 바꾼후 이슬람교로 개종을 하게 된다.

사실 내가 초등학교 2~3학년때까지만 해도 문워크를 걷는다며 애들이 뒤로 걷는 연습을 교실 마루에서 많이 흉내내며 놀았다.

마이클 잭슨의 음악은 80년대 끊임없이 한국에 들어왔지만, 나의 귀를 후벼파지는 않았다.

그러다...

90년대 초반인것 같다. 요즘은 dvd나 컴퓨터로도 상당히 좋은질의 뮤비를 볼 수 있었지만, 90년대 초반엔 그런 장치가 대부분 없어서 비디오밖에 영상을 볼 수 없었다.

당시 우리집에도 비디오가 있었는데 (그 당시에는 요즘의 pc방처럼 비디오 가게가 흥 했다) 볼게 없어서 마이클 잭슨의 뮤직 비디오 전집인 "Dangerous" 를 빌려보게 되었다.

별 느낌없이 보게 된 그때...

후벼파는 느낌이 있었으니...

이 후에 여러곡들이 많지만 가장 유명한 곡으로 남은...

난 이 곡을 유일하게 부를 줄 알게 되었는데 테이프를 여러번 감고 영어 가사책을 놓고 밤새 외웠던것 같다. 그로 인해서 발음이 좀 좋아지기도 했다... -.-; 데얼스 플레이스 인유어 허트~

뮤직비디오도 좋지만, 93년 슈퍼볼 공연에서 우연히 보게된 영상이 가장 기억에 남는다. 유트브에서 검색해보니 나오네...

한복을 곱게 차려입은 한국 꼬맹이도 잡혀 한국에서도 인기를 끌었던 동영상. 슈퍼볼 하프타임때 이런 큰 공연을 한다는것도 신기했지만 관중 하나하나가 하나된 마음으로 이 공연을 참여하는 모습도 상당히 감명받았던것 같다.

만약 마이클잭슨이 안 죽고 슈퍼볼 중간 하프타임때 이런 공연을 기획했다고 하면 제대로 되었을까? 아마 마이클 잭슨이 가장 아름다워 보였을때는 바로 이때가 아닌가 생각된다.

그는 저세상으로 갔지만, 그의 음악은 이 세상에 계속 존재할것이다...
